| I really have a lot of problems with FNV since I decided to install a fresh copy of the game on Windows 10. For short: memory misuses, sudden framerate drops, crashes... And yet I have a pretty decent machine (i7-6700k / GTX 1060 6GB / 8GB RAM). But I'am still in love with this game and I require your help for a new problem: crackling music. Including vanilla/modded music and radio stations. UI sounds work well however. Have you ever experienced such a problem? |

| And this is why I'm reinstalling Windows 7 for my DX9 games (FNV and Oldrim included).
Anyway... a possible solution...
The ambient music is choppy in both vanilla and modded games. This doesn't happen to the radio music during normal gameplay, but does during loading screens or transitioning between tracks (i.e. going from ambient "explore" music to "combat", or entering new locations with different music).
Old advice for FO3 was to uninstall "ffdshow", a codec mainly used for decoding of video in the MPEG-4 ASP (e.g. encoded with DivX or Xvid) and H.264/MPEG-4 AVC video formats, but it supports numerous other video and audio formats as well. (The user configures ffdshow's audio and video settings by launching the "ffdshow video decoder configuration program" independently of any media player.) Alternatively one could try to add FO3 to it's "exception" list. This never worked for me.
FNV appears to require at least some of the codec features provided by "ffdshow". If needed it can be re-installed as part of the CCCP codec pack or directly from the ffdshow tryouts website. (Alternative codecs may also provide the needed features.) Be sure to install the 32-bit version, as that is what the game needs. Some have reported that only the "CCCP codec" (without "ffdshow") is needed.
Remove falloutnv.exe and falloutnv4gb.exe programs from the list of "ffdshow" exceptions.

| Well, I don't know. With your solution, it does work at the beginning but music continues to crackle sometimes. I'm going to do more tests with the codecs installed. Anyway, thank you very much for your answer. This guide is extra!
EDIT
I did applied the fix but the problem persists. Perhaps I did something wrong. I just downloaded "ffdshow" from the website and installed it. Then I removed falloutnv.exe and falloutnv4gb.exe programs from the list of "ffdshow" exceptions, both for audio and video decoders. That's all. And the music still stutters, in the same way as this video shows it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zU-fncbZ0c0 |

| @Prosp3ro It has been two years since I had these issues. I think these are the solutions: FALLOUT NEW VEGAS FIX https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/35868 FALLOUT 3 FIX Download this file, check the third comment on the first page, and install the thing the way the comment guy said. My comment is one of the responses, indicating that I fixed it this way as well. It also works with Windows 10. https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/15472 Remember that these two fixes exclude each other when applied, so when you switch the game, you also have to switch the fix. |

| @VWgolfR1 Thank you! At the moment I have found no solution. Are you sure that "DirectShow Filter _Codec_ Reset" is compatible with W10? |

| @Prosp3ro Shit, I checked the comments, and it's not compatible. Not even with Win8. Try the D solution here: http://wiki.tesnexus.com/index.php/Radio_stutter_fix It also mentions the Fallout 3 fix, but instructions for it might give you an error, that's why I refered the info in the third comment on its mod page Perhaps it would be better to restart PC after you make the changes. |

| You could always try defragmenting your drive, it's done with a build-in tool, so you wouldn't have to download any programs, it helped me when the same problem found it's way into my PC.
Here's some info on Defraging your drive and how it can help you. _________________ "A girl is Arya Stark of Winterfell, and I'm going home."

| @Last Cascade Interesting idea. I had no clue this could solve the stuttering radio problem. |

| Does Windows 10 not have the feature that Windows 7 does where you can run a program like it was on a previous Windows iteration?

| @VWgolfR1 @Last Cascade Thanks, I will try these solutions very soon. If nothing works, I will install FNV in W7. Edit: I finally found a solution to my audio problems, and I would like to share it. In the .ini files, enable bMultiThreadAudio [Audio] and set the iAudioCacheSize [Audio] to 8192. Install a good audio codec may be also a solution, but it didn't work for me. Cheers! |
