I'm currently using 388.31, and there don't seem to be any issues. What graphics card do you have? Honestly, a lot of these problems are super dumb - it could be something to do with the drivers not liking your combination of card and CPU. I tend to go on /r/nvidia and check whether or not it's safe to update, so that could be a good bet whenever you want to update.
I would try using either 385.41, 385.69, 388.00, or 388.31 and see if any of those work better for you. Oh, and I would avoid using GeForce Experience. It's basically bloat at this point, and unless you specifically need any of those features it's probably not the best idea to have something that will auto-update you to a potentially bugged out driver.
