Hey, so today i wanna talk about one of my favorite slashers of all time: The Prowler. This is probably an absolute unknown movie except for those who this awesome movie subgenre, but The Prowler (i prefer using the original title because i just don't like how Rosemary's killer sounds)is one of the films that set the basis for this type of genre.
Before i star i want to make something very clear: this is one of the best slasher movies of the 80s decade, but if you are someone who enjoys stuff like psychological horror and thriller movies (silence of the lambs, the shining, insidious...), you'll probably not going to enjoy it, wich makes this film not for you.
Just look at the psycho killer, he is a mentally fucked up war veteran dressed with an awesome military outfitThe Prowler is about an army soldier who returns from fighting in WW2 and receives a letter from his girlfriend, Rosemary, saying that she got tired of waiting for him and found herself a new boy friend. This + his very fucked up head as a result from fighting in a war made the psycho killer very mad and killed both of them with a pitchfork during the prom dance. Now, 35 years late and for no reason at all, he comes back with his awesome military outfit and an arsenal of knives and all that stuff that military guys use to kill a lot of teenagers that are planning a prom dance for the first time since the killings.
0 originality in there because it does not show something new (like most slasher films), you even don't have to be a genius to find out who the killer is after 40 minutes of watching it... But! The Prowler makes it up by meeting the expectations of this type of film all the way down.
Now we're moving to my favorite part: killing, featuring 9 murders (seriously not enough for how awesome this guy kills everyone and i think they should have put a couple more) each of them more brutal and savage than the last. The normal stuff to watch in a slasher movie is people getting their throat sliced or stabbed with a knife or something, but the way that this psycho killer does this is jaw dropping of how grotesque and bural it looks.
This is in my opinion the best kill of the movie and one of my all time favorite kills of any slasher film. Poor guy was just about to get in the shower with his girlfriend, but then the psycho shows up from behind and stabs him right through the skull causing the knife to come out through his jaw. Dope af and lots of blood spurts everywhere.
another awesome one:
She just got her throat sliced up but not classic way, the psycho killer saw his throat whith the knife to the point that the knife touched the trachea bone!. Awesome special effects with blood spurts everywhere.All of these awesome stuff was possible thanks to horror master Tom Savini who made them pretty convincing for the time. Scares, jumps, a pretty interesting investigation from the final girl and her police boyfriend, a very charismatic and awesome psycho killer who gives you serious chills and a tense atmosphere, classic slasher chasing scenes between the killer and his/her victim, lots of bodies everywhere and an ending wich i thought was 10/10, you can find all this things in The Prowler
Overall is a very good movie in wich nothing stands out in a particular way, but is a pretty fun movie to watch and an very good option for 80s slasher movie lovers. You could say that The Prowler is in the same timeline of Friday The 13th 1 and the first Halloween sequels (Halloween 2 and 4), so if you enjoyed those movies it's almost a 100% sure that you are going to enjoy The Prowler as well. For many it's not probably the best, but for me is one of the best slasher films ever made, and if you happen to be in the mood of watching a film the has all the cliches of this genre do not hesitate, The Prowler is waiting for you.
Overall: 8/10 (just for me
)
