Hi folks!

I've been messing around with the game trying to create to some cool screenshots, and one of the things I've been fooling with is sky textures. I found the file for night skies (Skystars.dds) but I've been unable so far to find the base texture for the sky itself. I found the various cloud textures, but I've been struggling to find the skybox texture for daytimes. If anyone knows the name of the file itself and where it's located (if it's anywhere other than the sky folder) I'd be super greatful!

As far as I can tell, this is not your usual image-texture but just a colour-value set for a given weather type (under world>weather).

At the moment I am in the same pickle as you are.
While I don't know if this is all right I have come to the following conclusion by looking through two mods to reverse engineer. Reverse engineering mods is one of the best way to come to conclusions btw.

So in order to answer your question I went and took a look at my enb ruby enb which replaces the following files inside data/textures/sky I believe thats the folder you are looking for.
The files replaced are:
Sun.dds
Skystars.dds
nv_sunglare

By only replacing those files the sky of the nighttime is different, the clouds during day are much darker and are different and the sun is much bigger. I don't know what files are which.
And textures/sky contains much more files in my new vegas folder and I don't know if all of them are vanilla or replaced by mods.
Just know that the files named will change something in your game and it could answer your question by experimenting with them.

On other note
Nevada skies is a weather mod that adds a cloud mesh inside data/meshes/clouds. I don't believe it does anything without its esp but maybe figuring out what it does for certain may prove usefull too.
