Hello, ladies & gentleman! This time in the GUN insider we bring you an interview with one of the main writers of this article series, who loves GUN til death and is one of the most active staff members we've ever had. He goes by the name of @William Lionheart
Credits go to the interview crew and to keat for spell checking
Q: Hello there, would you like to introduce yourself?
WL: SALUTATIONS! Have to say having an interview that I used to do isn’t really the weirdest thing I’ve done. Anyhow my name is William as you could’ve guessed and I live in Belgium in the province of Antwerp. I finished my last education as Security Guard but currently work as a shop clerk, due to not being hired as a Security Guard. I’m a PC gamer by heart and have been playing games by myself from age 6 up till now. I’ve been in a few roleplaying communities before for games like Jedi Academy and The Specialists mod for Half-Life. There have been times where I was part of a modding community participating as beta-tester and multiple times eventually became the project leader. Mostly after everybody else gave up and I tried to keep the train on tracks.
Q: So, what brought you to G.U.N?
WL: Well awhile back I was looking for mods for my next NV play through on the Nexus and while I was looking into the mod Heroes of the Apocalypse 2.0 http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/58717/? By @dragbody I tried to find more of his work. This lead me to DeviantArt and from there I found out he was active on the Gaming Underground Network. When I finally arrived, I was at first a little hesitant to join at first due to the fact I do not like to register at many places. Yet after some thought, I decided to give it a try. I didn’t even start looking into the mods and actually became a part of the community instead. I only ever tried a mod WAY after being promoted to Colonial
Q: What could you tell us about your hobbies?
I love to read: Be it Sci-fi, Horror (I’ve read the works of Edgar Allan Poe), Fantasy (Warcraft) Marvel Comics, Manga’s and Detective stories (Read every story of Sherlock Holmes and love reading Poirot)
I like to go out and walk: Especially when the weather is good, just put on my music and I’ll take long walks.
A long time ago now I used to do some photoshop edits myself but I quit that because I found my skills too lacking for my taste. It was fun while it lasted but not only did I fuck up my eyesight with it, I often kept seeing uncolored pixels even when it was so far zoomed out it was barely noticeable. I ended up sitting maybe an inch from my screen with my eyes just to see the little mistakes I kept seeing.
Though I replaced my photoshopping days with guitar play, which I’ve been doing for the past 3-4 years now. As I like to read I also like to write but guess that one’s obvious now :p I’ve also picked up a joy in running long distances, which came to be due to Security training and I ran the Antwerp 10 miles last year. Though due to bad shoes and feet problems I’m still recuperating.
And lastly, I love to play video games, I mean duh.
Q: So, you play the guitar? What made you decide to actually buy one and practice?
WL: For a couple of years since my last high school years, I had this crazy idea that I wanted to learn to play the violin as a romantic thing to do if you have a girlfriend. Though a violin isn’t cheap let alone the lessons so that was only left as thoughts. Awhile later a friend of mine introduced me to Metalocalypse the metal cartoon featuring the band Dethklok. I was listening more to Metallica at that time than before and I actually wanted to start to play the guitar. So, one day that same friend showed me Rocksmith 2014 and told me to get it. I waited till I had enough money to purchase the Rocksmith Guitar package and right when I had it, it was no longer available. Though after few days waiting and monitoring one site, in particular, I managed to grab it right before it got sold out again. I have to say it was the best purchase I made for my birthday ever and 3 years later I still enjoy playing it. Though when I went to my friend’s place to celebrate his birthday I did not expect to go home with his first guitar. An improvement upon my first guitar.
Dethklok:
Black:
My first guitar, I never thought of giving it a name at the time so I just nickname it Black for it's looks
Lilith:
This is the guitar I received from my friend, he is a borderlands fan so it's kinda obvious where the name comes from
Q: Do you want to achieve anything with your guitar skills?
WL: Yeah, I actually do want to, it may be farfetched and sound crazy to most people. But I really want to become a great guitarist one day. I won’t do it for the money but just be able to play the guitar because I love to do it and share my love for it with other people. Though I would show off at school reunions :p
Q: So, is there any particular form of music you like?
WL: I mostly like Metal and it’s all variations, many variations of Rock, but I also enjoy other styles too. My mood for music varies from time to time. Fallout made me appreciate older songs and artists. For example Dion & The Belmont’s, Elvis Presley, The Inkspots and Frank Sinatra. I took over most music from my brother but ended up developing my own taste. I grew up mostly listening to Linkin Park, who are to this day, still my favorite band. Though I don’t listen to them that much anymore, compared to on a daily basis back in high school. People complain about how they changed, but I still like them and their music. They try something new, though it sometimes doesn’t catch on they do bring great songs.
As for my favorite singer, it has to be Jon Bon Jovi from the band Bon Jovi, he’s been my favorite singer for ages and I even based my hairstyle on most of my life. Other bands, I love besides these two are Metallica, Slipknot, Mushroom Head, Sabaton among others.
Q: What made you start these interviews?
WL: Well the main reason is because I like to write stories, I used to write plenty of stories hoping to become a writer one day. In my last school year, my fellow classmates loved the stories I wrote for our assignments. I usually cut off from writing them even though having so many ideas. My main problem is the lack of inspiration and the worry that it may seem like I’m stealing somebodies’ idea and that it has been done before. Writing these interviews gives me the opportunity to start writing again. I did finish one Zombie Survival guide and I should get on to releasing it yet haven’t thought about it in a while.
Q: What kind of games do you like and is there one you love the most?
WL: I mainly love to play Open World RPG’s like Fallout and Skyrim. I just love recreating myself in these worlds and live another “life”. Though I usually take forever to finish the main quest because I just love to go out and explore and do other things first. Fallout 4 broke the record I finished it and all its DLC's within the year. I’m also a huge fan of The Witcher franchise, Mass Effect, and the Half-Life franchise.
I love myself some shooters from time to time but not the kind where you put your mind on Zero and just kill everything in sight. Though a great exception has to be the Serious Sam franchise. As for the most favorite game of all time, it has to be Half-Life. I’ve finished that game both modded and unmodded +40 times cause the game is just so great, hell even HL2 is nearly up to that same amount, combined I played them nearly over a hundred times if not more.
Q: Any particular car you like?
WL: Can't say I am a car nut myself but I have a few car's that I do fancy. I don't know why but I have a thing for big ass cars, mostly trucks/pickup trucks. I have a thing for the Range/Land Rover brand since I was a kid, absolutely no clue where it comes from but just look at them. When I first saw the Evoque I almost drooled in computer class. Despite that small back window, that car is so awesome. Though can’t go wrong with a Ford Mustang either both the more modern sports car version and the classic muscle car version are so amazing. They both have both speed and power that just draws me to them. I also absolutely loved Frankenstein's car from Death Race (remake) and finally, a classic that I love is The Hummer. As for brands my interest go out to Ford, Toyota, Nissan, Range/Land Rover and Mitsubishi
Q: What is cosplaying and why do you do it?
WL: Cosplaying is basically dressing up as your favorite character be it from games, movies, series, comics or manga. In a sense, you represent a character from a source you like the most. As to why I do it, it's just fun to dress as your favorite character. Even though people just think it's dressing up it's something fun to do especially when you're in a group with characters from the same source.
Q: Is there anything you want to say to/advise the other community members?
WL: Be yourself and believe in yourself. If you have hopes and dreams that are crazy don’t give up on them. You can achieve the greatest things if you believe in just yourself. Community wise don’t put all your money on becoming a colonial, there’s a lot of great stuff in the public lounge and a lot more. There are no easy ways to becoming one, just be ACTIVE and CONTRIBUTE. I take great joy in finding people who are willing to stick with the community and have them brought up for a promotion.

An enjoyable read. Heh heh! I'd quite like to be interviewed myself -- in fact, I think it'd be nice to learn more about all of our members who've been with us long enough to be a GUN-household name.

It was about damn time I posted here. As always, great work, nice interview! I was cool to have the interviewer interviewed.
@William Lionheart Nice guitars you got there buddy! Got an epiphone myself (it's the 1st guitar that I got in fact), but it's a SG shape and not a Les Paul. The black one really has its charm I think. Now I wonder, what's your favorite between the two?
Like I said, great interview, thank you guys for working on those interviews Can't wait for the next one.

@praising Of the two guitars, I have to pick Lilith. when I first played on it before I owned it, I felt the difference between the two in an instant.
Lilith is heavier and has a wooden neck, unlike Black which was a rather cheap guitar (I paid like 120 bucks for the Rocksmith 2014 Guitar Edition) so you can't expect a lot from it quality wise. Black's neck is from synthetic design making it easier to over slide on the fret board, when your fingers are sweaty.
For a first guitar Black was everything I needed, but as I got more skilled Lilith played way better than Black ever did. Doesn't mean I'll sell them or give them away, even though I'm already thinking about the next guitar already.

@William Lionheart I don't think I've ever played on a guitar that had a neck that wasn't made out of wood. I should try one some day, and see for myself if it sounds as bad as people tend to say, compared to a wooden neck guitar. Never agreed to this myself, I think that a really good guitarost should be able to make any guitar sound good, be it an expensive one or a cheap guitar. In the end, it all comes down to the guitarist fingers, and his skills. If you're thinking about getting a new one, well good luck with that. Personally, I've wanted to get me a new guitar for a few years now, but never could really decide which one. There's too many choices, and I've never been sure which one I want the most. So I stick with the 2 I already have

@praising Well it doesn't sound bad really, it just plays different to me. Was a whole new feel when I tried it out and it's just my opinion.
You can always go to a music store and see if you can try some of them out to find the one you want. I got plenty of ideas myself like, I've been wanting a flying V for awhile now. I planned on buying the Snow Falcon for my next birthday but it's only 22 frets while the songs I play have 24.

Not sure how I missed this one! I usually see all the interviews posted. As usual this was another great interview that I really liked reading! Loved the questions and I loved learning about William as well! Awesome to see he is a fan of Dethklok! I loved Metalocalypse show! Awesome story about the guitar, always thought about learning to play my self but I'm to lazy and never had the will to push myself. I am a fan of Slipknot as well I love their Horror themes. Great interview very well done!

@Hoppyhead Sorry for the very late response my mind can be everywhere. Long ago my mother always wanted me to play an instrument but I really hate being pushed into things. So everytime I thought about it, they pushed the idea again and I lost interest.
I think the best course of action for you to take is for example: get a cheap guitar and maybe get Rocksmith 2014 along with it and the cable required. I won't say it's the best solution, but it's a great way to getting started.

Great interview, im with you on the whole having to register to different places. Always makes it harder later on to remember the account details. Also hope the guitar playing goes well for you, And you can keep upto it. I remember when i used to play piano/keyboard, for a few years then things got in my way and I just lost the interest/motivation to play it. It was a real shame, but yeah i still hope you do well with it

Always wanted to learn the Violin or the Cello. Somebody suggested I learn the guitar and take that back to learn the Cello. Great interview. Always fun getting to know our community members more. Btw @William Lionheart did you have any luck in getting into the network cabling or low voltage?

@MrVulpe Many thanks, I will keep practicing and hopefully one day it will pay off.
@Evmeister Have been busy with going on vacation. Though I tried looking for it but think i need to go a educational/service center to get some info. How to get both paid for the education and do it at the same time.
