| Since this is the most active board I have ever been to in regards to fallout and I really am starting to feel at home here. I figured I asked a question that I love to talk about What is your favorite Fallout protagonist that includes tactics if you prefer I always see the warrior getting the cold shoulder.
Ill explain my reason for each one
That the Fallout new Vegas Protagonist is the one bad ass motherfucker now don't get me wrong the first protagonist the vault dweller is the most legendary. Without him the Fallout 2 protagonist wouldn't even exist considering he is his grandfather. The NCR started because of him and the west coast is stable because he took down the being who created most of the nastiest creatures in the wasteland. And is one of the most influential people in the series so much so by F3 he was nothing more then a legend even in the east coast.
The Fallout 2 protagonist known as the chosen one. Being the first tribal protagonist is pretty strong and had the biggest motley crew from a robot dog, talking deathclaw, super mutant, ghoul, you name it. He took down the enclave and prevented mass genocide and took down Frank horrgian...if you don't know who that is just look it up...well anyway he pushed them east. While the brotherhood cleaned up the rest. He is also very well known but only on the east coast and help rebuild most of civilization over there.
The Fallout 3 protagonist the lone wanderer...well....i mean he did stuff. Lol. Being the second vault dweller protag, I mean he stoped an alien invasion, cleaned up the rest of the enclave that moved to the west years before because of the choosen one. They werent as tough as they were in F02 and he had the whole brotherhood backing him something the choosen one didnt. And he was able to give the capital fresh water and crops so that's something. He freed a bunch of slaves from Pittsburgh by him self. So yeah he's cool I do like him just...he isn't as great as the two that game before him.
The fallout tactics years before him the man only known as the warrior was the second tribal and was a recruit turned General for the brotherhood of steel. He is a master tactician and probably is one of the best users of power armor and weapons in General. Defeated legions of army's in Chicago in the midwest. From super mutants, super robots, super deathclaws, hi tech ninja armys etc I mean he kickass. Nof...said.
Fallout new vegas..protagonist..the courier....man....he has seen it all traveled the whole east coast and midwest isn't a tribal or a vault dweller. He is just a fucking mail man pretty much by the time of the game. He blew up a while entire fucking city and inadvertently killed over 1000s of people and created new monsters and a disaster on accident . Is a former NCR ranger and you have to be the best of the best to wear that title not even the brotherhood can fuck with the rangers. Gets shot in the head lives and gets his brain, heart spine annnnd lungs taken out lives becomes half cyborg in the inside defeated 3 army's by his fucking self. Even if siding with the NCR. Survives in a toxic area where you cant breathe with no guns no resources or anything and so much more I could write essay in the shot he has been through...he is op as fuck. Lol.
Fallout 4... the sole survivor he or she was a a former soldier or lawyer. Builds shit forgets his son a lot and.... is the leader of the mintuemen destroyer of the institute and ally to the brotherhood and railroad. that's where that ends they are badass but weak sauce compared to even to the lone wanderer....at least he can become a raider boss...? I guess. _________________ - I Wish.... to Fly to a Place So Far Away:

| I never play the roles suggested by Obsidian/Bethesda. Same thing about TES games. I'm always like "nope", so I can roleplay something weird in my head. Call me an autist, but playing as "le chosen one" always seemed to me pretty boring. Same thing with searching for relatives that you genuinely don't care about. I guess the most interesting one in this list must be the Courier, considering that the only background we had about him/her was his/her occupation. Freedom! But yet again it's a weird situation where you get dragged into politics and important events that a normal courier wouldn't really care about. I'd call it an artificial importance created around the character, which doesn't make sense. |

I suppose I am the opposite in that respect I have to play it that way but with my own spin and misadventures along the way. I guess if you put it like that we have never had a real open ended protagonist in fallout? What do you usually do then when role playing? _________________ - I Wish.... to Fly to a Place So Far Away:

| I like FO3 protag because he's very young and there's still so much to come in his future. He (canon) has a good heart, emotionally stable, still has faith in the world despite what he's seen. In my mind he would be a great leader for the future. _________________ Dream game: Shenmue - Harvest Moon - Fallout hybrid |

| Mine is the Courier from FNV because he got shot in the head and lived then proceeds to huntdown the perpetrator. You can't get anymore badass than that. |

| My favourite is also courier he is born survivor. He survived shot in the head, lobomization, being trapped in city full of toxins with bomb collar on his neck, defeated ncr, legion, mr House by himself, defended tribes of zion, unlocked orbital cannon, bombarded Long 15 and dry Wells what would'nt be badass in him?? _________________ "For the Emperor and Sanguinius! | @"Dio Brando" Same. I love playing as the Courier, 'cause I can take any role I want. I guess Bethesda had a good intention, when they designed the Fallout 4 protagonist, they wanted to portray him/her as a human being, instead of an "empty avatar". That's the main reason I have mixed feelings towards that character. On one hand they kinda succeeded, s/he's more like a real person, on the other, they pretty much removed all the role-playing aspects. I still prefer our voiceless Courier, with no background story, but with crapload of options. _________________ |

| While I know the pervasive opinion on fallout 4's characters is not exactly positive, my favourite fallout protagonist is actually the lone wanderer. For the only reason that I can be a raider boss. I know it doesnt seem like a protagonist kind of thing but so far fallout 4 is the only fallout game that lets be be a raider king. _________________ I'm Absolutely, Positively Shadetastic baby |

| My character from Fallout 3, His appearance looks like a teenage Star-Lord, When I got the Mothership-Zeta DLC, I literally made the dream came true, still my first favorite character I ever played, with the long coat and the Advanced power armor Mk II helmet, I literally was the wasteland version of him, Hell, I even downloaded an MP3 player mod and added the Awesome Mix Vol. 1! _________________ In this shaken, twisted world, I gradually become transparent, unable to be seen. | This is not hard at all for me to choose. My favorite fallout protagonist is without hesitation "the Courier".
The main reason is, like some of you already stated, because of his mostly "blank" background. So you get to choose whoever you want him to be. The Courier character is perfect for me because you have the opportunity to really create your own story within the game. I think that this allows you to truly "be" the character, instead of just "playing" the character. And thus, your ingame decisions have much more emotional impact, you faces the consequences of your actions. Anyway, that's how I see it, and why I prefer the Courier.
Also, even after playing all those years as the courier, his story is still not over... He still have to go through one last journey. "The Frontier" awaits him. |

| **Warning. My response may be long and contain spoilers to the Fallout games. Readers beware if you have not finished any of the Fallout games.**
Right. Well, before I give my answer, let's quickly take a look at the protagonists, shall we? I will be skipping FO 1, 2, and Tactics because I have played none of them. I've only played the games made by Bethesda.
Right so the first one is Fallout 3 otherwise known as the Lone Wanderer. I won't describe what he or the other protagonists did since you already did that. What I will say is what I like about him and the others.
First off the Lone Wanderer does start out as a Vault Dweller and although he may have not been the one to accomplish most, he still accomplished a fair bit. Plus you do gotta give him credit for even surviving and learning to adapt to his new way of life. I mean. He spent his entire life in a Vault and then was suddenly thrust into this strange new radiated world. On top of that he did help put a stop to the Enclave's plans and completely save the Capital Wasteland from them with the Brotherhood of Steel's help.
Next off is the Courier or Courier Six as some call him. He's seen it all and been through it all. Not to mention he was shot right in the head and deepening on your choices. He either conquerored the Hoover dam for the Legion, secured the Hoover dam for the NCR, or took over all of New Vegas. Not to mention he finally got into the vault of the Sierra Madre, helped an oppressed tribe with the help of a former Legionaire, was taken away to be experimented on, and battle another Courier under an old world flag. Honestly he seems like an unstoppable killing machine. On top of that...he's a wastelander! We're so use to seeing Vault Dwellers or Tribal going out into the world and making a name for themselves, but not a wastelander. I think that's what's most impressive.
And finally you got the Sole Survivor. I think the problem is everyone likes to think he mostly goofs around and on top of that, they think he's not interesting which...I disagree. True his backstory was set up, but....so wasn't all the other protagonists? The only mysterious one is the Courier. Everyone else is otherwise given a backstory of how they live and where they came from. The only difference with the Sole Survivor is that we went a bit in depth with his backstory. I mainly respect him because his entire way of life was taken from him. As a gamer and viewer on the outside, we can't really know how that feels. It'd be like if you went about your daily life then one day you woke up and everything changed. Your family and loved ones are gone/dead, there is no law, people are barley able to survivor, and there are some new horrifying creatures roaming around. That's gotta take it's tole on someone's sanity. The fact that he's able to stay focused and power on through is rather impressive and earns respect in my book.
Now, to answer your question. This may be cheating, but I have two. The Courier...and the Sole Survivor. I loved the Lone Wanderer, but in a way he's pretty basic. The Courier...is well, a badass, need I say more? And the Sole Survivor lost everything he loved, but didn't give up. He learned to adapt to his new way of life and rebuilt everything from the ground up. That's impressive and I respect that. |

| The Chosen One. From the tribal beginnings to New Reno exploits; discovering Vault 13 again and their new inhabitants; saving a friendship at the cost of covering the whole town in crap; learning about the true nature of vaults and of my ancestor's legacy, which I have contributed to in the first game as well; discovering what New Vegas references to Fallout 2 really mean; and finally giving the bastards who have caused so much post-apocalyptic suffering what they deserved... Although the Courier and Vault Dweller come close to him/her, the path of the Fallout 2 protagonist feels as the most memorable to me so far. |

| @"ShadyShade" Raider Boss? Don you mean the sole survivor then @"ghostsniperx13" That sounds amazing I dig the outfit and description do you have any pics of your character laying around? I always try to make my lone wanderer a wimp gone bad ass by the end. @"praising" Ah yes the frontier....the wait is killing me...I need it and maybe project brazil as well not sure yet on that one but the frontier has so much promsie! @"TheThompsonBoss" I love post like this always an interesting read thats why I wrote mine like that.. If any one read it haha I know it was a lot. But to respond to ypur post: As far as the lone wanderer goes I never looked at it that way hoenstly but maybe becasue I platyed fallout 1 and fallout 3 is that story is copy and pasted almost excatlt with a few diffrennce The vault dweller and the lone wanderer are simlar but the vault dweller had a much bigger impact on the world so I agree that he is well..Basic The courier....he is all you said and more Id be beating a dead horse to go on everyone seems to love him/her Sole survivor that shifts my perspective quite a bit honestly....they may have be the strongest lead mentally and they still do do alot. all while still losing there spouse and child... @"VWgolfR1" I like the chosen one too and i am surprised to anyone mention them they are the most underrated in my opinion _________________ - I Wish.... to Fly to a Place So Far Away:

| I'd have to say the courier. They have a backstory and job but they doesn't interfere with how I want to play or who I want my courier to be. The Sole Survivor just has too much baggage. Possibly having a biological family member still out there in this unknown world is a lot to deal with, and if it were your own son there's no way you'd just screw around in your settlement and bang multiple humans, synths, and ghouls, but that's exactly what I did. Not saying that having a son is impossible for a video game main character, I just think that Bethesda didn't do it well. I think the same applies to the Lone Wanderer, just to a lesser extent. You know your Dad is a smart guy and that he managed to escape by himself, so he's definitely more capable than your infant son, but he's still your family and you probably want to find him as soon as you can. _________________ |

That never made much sense to me ...
- Your are/were a courier not military, not powder ganger but post apocalyptic mailman
- You get shot in the head and buried
- A guy named Benny got the drop on you
I think if I woke up in a grave, shot in the head by a guy named Benny, I think I would have to re-evaluate my life choices up to that point |

| For me it was the Lone Wanderer.
He gave off a feel very much like the Vault Dweller and like the Vault Dweller he was force to survive in one of the worst Wastelands out there.
Let's face it, the Capital Wasteland beat them all far as the ones we seen.
But the fact that he lost his family just like that is just truly saddening say the least, no telling his or her's reaction with Sarah Lyons's death. But overall it was the Lone Wanderer and the Courier who got my attention right away because of the horrors they had to face in their journeys and of course their companions who followed them. |
