There are flowers
Blooming, beautiful flowers,
That smell sweetly and soft,
In the fields
Where me and my brother fought.

There are clouds,
That stop the sunshine
Stormy clouds,
That hide that sin of mine.
Still those clouds,

This is not the first time,
I have wondered why,
When I see the heavens,
I get the urge to cry.
When I stand in those fields,
And I look straight up,
I can hear my brother,
Calling out with love.
But there was blood,

Long ago, years ago,
We were marching forward
Like we had been told,
Always marching forward,
When the air was cold.
And they screamed “halt!”
And then I saw him in the tide,
In our father's coat,
On the other side.
And they screamed “draw!”
And I aimed at my brother,
And said goodbye to my mother.
And the bullets rang,
And he had done the same,
As me.

A bullet
Lodged into
My shoulder,
But my mark
Hit closer.
In his heart,
My bullet
Landed
And it stays
In those fields
Where me
and my brother
Fought.

And an angel reared
It's crowned head
From the heavens above
To retrieve the dead.
A demon, too,
Came for them,
And they fought in front of me,
And the demon said:

“I know who I'm here for.
You know who has sinned here.”
The angel laughed,
And cut down the demon,
And she said to me:
“You can be forgiven,
If you want.”

Now the war is over,
And I've built a little house,
In a field of flowers,
Covered up by clouds.
And here I wait,
For my forgiveness,
For my brothers sake.
In these fields,
Where me and my brother fought.
