| I haven't played FO4 for a long time now because of overheating This is how high my temps are while running FO4 with no mods and with settings on highest, apart from shadow distance and godrays on low Inside a building - Spoiler:
Outside at the Sanctuary....sometimes it hits 80 to 85 - Spoiler:
and this is the temps while running Mad Max game, which is almost the same as FO4 indoors...this is just to show that my computer is running fine on a demanding game - Spoiler:
Can a bunch of people tell me what temps they are getting while playing FO4 so I can see if its my computer or the games fault |

| My fx-8120 (stock cooler) hits around 75-80C while playing fallout 4 (AMD part though :/). If the temperatures have no effect on performance (thermal throttling) then I wouldn't worry about it.
AFAIK Intel processors start throttling at 100C seeing as you are a ways off that mark I'd say your fine _________________ "If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough" -Albert Einstein |

| @angeloma000 Thank you for the info, yeah I don't get any performance loss and my computer has never shut down yet....I'm just worried because I've read a lot about temps going over 70C is dangerous and shortens life span of the computer and burns up parts...I feel like I'm killing my computer if I play it, and it being a Fallout game, I tend to play it a very long time =/ lol one more thing, putting the graphics settings on lowest doesn't change anything, it still uses the same cpu usage, is this the same for you? |

| What's your current CPU cooler? Since you have a 'K' cpu I'm going to assume you don't have an intel stock cooler, correct? |

| @mistermansnake it seems that I experience the same cpu usage regardless of the graphics settings as well.
While your temperatures are safe, if you're still not comfortable with them you can do a few things; get some Thermal paste and a proper heatsink (assuming you're using the stock cooler) I like Noctua products, but they can be a bit ugly if you care for asthetics as well as pricey. If you'd rather get something cheaper I've used this heat sink while I was running a LGA1150 part. You could also add some case fans ( assuming you don't have any) or set up watercooling if you want to go all in.

| Buy yourself a new CPU cooler, replace the old thermal paste. Bam, that should fix your problem.
If you're unsure how to do it, I'm sure there's plenty of youtube tutorials, it's simple enough. _________________ Grudge rhymes with fudge.

| @gav07Gaming Hmm sorry to seem like a complete idiot but I don't know, its a custom build made by my brother so i have no idea what the heck is living in there @angeloma000 Well I've had it about a year and half now so I guess i should apply some thermal paste and thanks for the other links, I'll look into it @SixShooter Thank you, I'll check what I've got and see if I need a new CPU cooler and look for a tutorial cause I have no idea =/ Thanks for the help guys |

| go to pcpartpicker.
select your CPU.
find compatible cooler.
personally i never OCed and stock cooler works fine (im on a i5 6500 for about a year now). but an aftermarket will definitely keeps it cooler and isn't very expensive anyway |

| I remember having a similar issue. Well one thing that can always help is getting a spay of compressed air to get rid of any dust inside your pc. _________________ When Life Gives You Lemons Keep Em Cause hey free lemons

| Clean the Dust inside your cpu heatsink, change the TIM as someone suggest, or maybe get a better heatsink. Also clean the dust out of your pc every 1-2 months. _________________ AAA Environment Artist & Modeler, US Army Combat Vet, Full Sail University Alumni |

| Stock cooler is a joke, get a new one and a good thermal paste. Good ol Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO will do the job and as for the thermal paste, I been using arctic mx-4 since years and its really good, tried prolimatech pk-3 as well, that one is good too. In case you get another cooler check if the thermal paste is compatible, there have been cases where it corroded the heat sink, one last thing the mx-4 doesn't need to be spread cuz its fluid but the prolimatech is a paste and gave me better results when I spread it.

| To me what happens to me in the big cities low fps up to 43 aprox, I do not know which option is the one that destroys the performance, but the rest of the time it works at 60 fps _________________ |

| @WarDaddy Thanks for telling me about that stuff, I'm going to have to be careful @Danieldefense I get constant 60fps apart from that bloody tower with all the super mutants Putting shadow distance on medium and godrays on low helped get rid of the frame drops for me My problem is overheating my cpu but hope this helps you with the big cities frame drops =) EDIT Just came back to say that I fixed my problem by sending all my 21 settlers to a different location and selling all the equipment in Sanctuary, like turrets, lights and generators etc here's my CPU temps now - Spoiler:
It's rather pathetic that this lowered my temps...I also checked other settlements and they had pretty low temps, like 50 c, I think there's something wrong with Sanctuary, so I won't be using that place as a main base again |
