| Hi guys, this is not really a problem, it's just very frustrating. I'm using the Spice of Life to have more variations in terms of armor and clothing for the npc and it works like a charm. There's just one thing it doesn't "variate"/randomize: Fiends' helmets (Aside from Vault suits which can't be modified for obvious lore reasons).
As I'm in my 20th playthrough or so, it's becoming really boring to see those guys always wearing the same horrible helmet (But with at least 6 or 7 different armors). Is there a mod somewhere that solve this?

| You may want to give a look at a mod on the nexus called "Fiend Variants." It appears to add different kinds of fiends to the game. It doesn't have any screens, and I have not tested it myself (don't currently have New Vegas installed). However, it might be a good place to start looking. I don't think it gets rid of the bone helms on the normal fiends though. Other than that you would probably have to create a custom mod. Maybe someone on the network can help you out with that. It sounds like a simple enough thing to do (says the guy with no modding chops whatsoever). I assume the fiend helmet is an actual item in the game's code that can be removed. Maybe if you play around in the geck you can find a way to remove it from their inventory.
Edit: Oh and if you do find a mod (or some other method) to do this, let me know because I might be interested in using it in my next playthrough. |

| You could just modify their leveled lists and add a variety of helmets. That way they'll spawn with something different every time. |

| That's kind of what I was getting at, only much better. I assume this can be done with the GECK (Sorry. I a newbie when it comes to modding/editing games). |

It can be done with FNVEdit, but its easier to do with GECK and of the many things you can do with GECK this is one of the least complicated. It does require some patience though, figuring out GECK is sort of tedious. |

| I couldn't stand that helmet either so I removed it completely. What I did was go into the geck and add the original raider helmets to their armored lists. If that's not good enough I highly recommend you check out the Spice of life Mod at nexus. It contains some amazing outfits and helmets that will make confrontations with the fiends less bland and boring. Only thing you have to do is put the armor in their lists and you're good to go. _________________ |

| Thanks. I think I'm going to start learning how to use the GECK. Any suggestions on tutorials to get me started? I'd like to build enough skill that I can start making things, as well as editing existing content in the game and other people's mods. |

| There isn't really a lot when it comes to tutorials for GECK to be honest. I wish there was though. I learned most of it myself.
I know there are some scripting tutorials but they don't cover a lot of stuff, especially when it comes to things like NVSE. They say that if you know FNVEdit, it is easier to use GECK. Quite frankly I don't know about that most of those people say its better to start with GECK but I started the other way around and found that GECK is harder to use than FNVedit.
Anyway, GECK has a lot of stuff, it has stuff for scripting, character creation, navmeshing, leveled lists, etc. |

| Oh well. Guess I should just dive head first. I've messed around a bit in FNVEdit and manually changed some stuff, but nothing major. Maybe I'll go through the tutorials that Bethesda made, but from watching their first video my confidence isn't very high. Also started watching Millenia's tutorials for weapon modeling. Going to downlaod 3ds Max and Gimp and start messing about with that. I haven't decided what I want to do with mods, and I'd like to try a bit of everything to see what I like best. Well thanks for the advice. I won't fill this thread with any more of my ramblings. |

| Yeah I hate the stupid Fiend Helmets too, I got this mod on Nexus that removes the Fiend Helmets and replaces them with the Fallout 3 Raider helmets (This is not an import, the GECK has tons and tons of Fallout 3 content)
You can find it here: http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/40319/? _________________ F3Underground/VGUNetwork member since 2011.

You have to pay for 3DS Max though, Blender is free. I know nothing about that though, modelling is like rocket science to me. |

| Actually you can get a free version of 3ds max on their site (student version for games i believe). I can't post any links yet, but there's a student section that allows you to get a free version of 3ds max. All you need to do is make an account. I have both 3ds Max and Blender on my PC. I know how to use Blender a little bit, but Millenia recommends using 3ds max. His tutorials are also using 3ds Max, so I might just use that for convenience since his tutorials are so nice. Who knows, maybe if I get decent enough at modeling I can make a less ridiculous fiend helmet. |
