| Hey everyone,
Since I've been a member of this community, I've read a lot about the other fallout games. I've read how superior FNV is over FO4, I've read how FO3 was a turning point in the franchise. Add to that the number of great looking mods here that I want to use...only to see it's for FNV. I have no insight into the other games as I haven't played them, but I am curious if I as one who started with FO4, could enjoy the GAMEPLAY (the story I'm certain I will enjoy) if I'm very much accustom to how FO4 is? The game itself will I enjoy playing through it? Or could I glean some backstory from a few youtube videos? I'm really asking for input and opinions from those that have played all, some, most, or other FO games to say "yeah it's totally worth it to go and play the others" or "meh just play _____ as it's the best of the previous don't bother with ____ or ____ because they're just rehashes of ____"
Thank you all for any insight/light you can shed on this matter, I very much enjoy FO4...but am curious if FNV or others I would enjoy even more from a gameplay aspect...as I believe that these games are the modern day books...they tell a story...speaking of...where in the hell is the fallout movie? |

| lets start from 3 , - F3:
oldest of the fps fallouts seeing as you're coming from 4 it may be a bit harsh for its lack of features and overall just obtuseness mods can fix that somewhat, Example f3 doesnt have iron sites vanilla it has a little zoom around the reticle and karma limiting you from various companions among other things . Levels cap is 30 if i recall correct modding can fix that as well.overall enjoyment is there if a bit hampered by age FNV - NV:
gone we are from the cityscape wasteland of the capital wastes into a sandy place the Mojave wasteland , Fnv is toted to be the best story in the fps fallouts and that seems to be because the game was made by obsidian not Bethesda, Obsidian having few people of black isles the original fallout devs. You might of guessed gameplays changed again , unlike 4 or 3 New Vegas has a ammo type system ,what does that mean to you means that for a guy in power armor is easier to kill with armor piercing then with regular ammunition, The ammo comes in many different variants for different weapons and types from explosive, incendiary to special handloads you need a perk for, even energy weapons get loving to with overcharged, max charged, economy cells. From the amount of info iv typed about NV you could gather that I 100 % recommend it
as for things that persist in both 3 and NV that don't in 4 - Shared :
power armor is wearable only by perk and does not need fusion cores, fusion cores are not even in the games prior to 4 Fallout 3 and NV share the same engine as oblivion sadly so for visual fedility you have to go to mods , if you expecting oblivions potato people keep out a eye for them in the wastes if you play either game vanilla. both do not have the legendary enemy or the prefix weapons (ex Powerful rolling pin)in game so do not expect that
thats all I can remember any questions ? _________________ |

| I have an "ammo system" in FO4 which I've had since the start...it just occurred to me that it's actually a mod and since i've never played FO4 vanilla, I now see how the idea for this mod to exist happened.
It seems as though I will be playing this saga "star wars" style...as in, I've started in the middle and I'll need to work backward. I'm certainly on board with doing FNV...more FO3 research is needed to see if it's worth installing/modding/playing through or not. I was on the fence with FNV...but the scales have tipped in its favor.
thank you for your insight! _________________ |

| Fallout New Vegas definitely is the best 3D Fallout game all-around, if you like true open-world RPGs with extensive character dialogue.
The dialogue and quests are much better than in 4, partly due to the superior dialogue system, but also because there are multiple ways to complete the quests, and it can change the fate of entire settlements for the rest of the game. One example of these quests is right in the beginning, the quest "Ghost Town Gunfight".
The actual gameplay is not much different from 4, except that VATS stops time completely instead of slowing it down, so you can basically stop time and plan out your moves similar to the scenes in the new Sherlock Holmes movies.
The perk system is also much better, but it's more RPG-like. You can put your points into expertise of specific weapons, speech, sneaking etc. and you can unlock perks that have to do with those skills, and make you more powerful in that field.
There are 4 DLC's for this game, and you should get all of them. Each one has a new worldspace and storyline, and you can get them for very cheap along with the Ultimate Edition.
And if that's not enough, this game has so many mods that if you feel anything is missing, it's probably been made in the past 5 years. I've been playing this game with mods for quite some time, so if you're looking for any kind of mod, you can ask me. There's a good chance I've downloaded such a mod some time in the past.
This is beginning to sound like a fanboy rant, but yeah, I have only good things to say about this game. If you run into any memory, unstability or bug issues, there are fixes for those too.
The first thing you should get is NVSE, New Vegas Script Extender. Most mods that involve scripting require it. You should also get the 4GB Enabler and New Vegas Anti-Crash.
I also personally watch mod review channels, because that way you can get a look at the mods before downloading or installing, and they often highlight good mods. _________________ A secret message to the chosen ones:- Spoiler:

| I agree with the others, New Vegas is an absolute must-have. Fallout 3 lacks a load of features that New Vegas has, but I think that the game world is fantastic, on par or maybe slightly better than NV. I would recommend Tale of Two Wastelands which merges Fallout 3 into NV,but you'll probably want to get them on sale. |

| Try tale of two wastelands , you can play both in the same game and have all of there benefits and no drawbacks from fallout 3's old engine. Hope you have a wonderful journey and don't let the majority's opinion overrule your own. |

| Hmm
So "tale of two wastelands" allows for the combined story line of FO3 and FNV? I need both games yes or no?
It's fascinating, really, all of this.
So I need to get the "ultimate edition" of FNV with all of the DLC...and FO3...well Full "steam" ahead _________________ |

| Yeah that's correct, the Ultimate Edition of New Vegas and the GOTY Edition of Fallout 3. You get all the good stuff without any drawbacks, like lukaboot said. Have fun! |

| Play them all, or if you wanna cheat, and don't want to go all the way back to the older isometric games, watch really in-depth let's plays/walkthroughs to get what it's all about, and then start with Fallout 3, then New Vegas. I recommend Tale of Two Wastelands, but I'm not sure if I can recommend it your first time through. I'd say beat them both individually, then use TTW, but it's your world. There's no wrong way to play. _________________ "The street finds its own uses for things." ~ William Gibson, Burning Chrome

| Update:
As of this moment I have installed FNV Ultimate Edition...I started the game.
I loved the intro...really drew me in Started the orientation play with Doc...meh...aside from not understanding what i was choosing...the customization of the figure seemed pointless because...it's a first person only right? and the SPECIAL choosing made no sense to me at all. Not sure about the "psych eval" either...but whatever I rolled with it Doc walks me to the door...gives me his old dirty underwear (vault suit) with some half-ass explanation as to why I should wear it (not even my size...I picture him trying to put a onesie on)
I walk outside and there is a securitron rolling by that I shoot...he shot me back...and I died on the front porch of Doc's house.
As of now my install time outweighs my play time for this game...I don't know if I can push through it or not...I know everyone here and on the planet that has played this game swears it's superior to FO4...but for me...I started with FO4.
This exercise has helped me resolve the issue of how far back I should go...I can't, i don't believe the time invested will result in a sufficient amount of satisfaction...instead I have decided to go forward, afterall the next step from player is to...creator.
This community has some amazing artists and a plethora of content for the player: weapons armor textures sounds enbs(not sure what those are but you've got em)
I see a little content for the environment...and that's where I want to start, I believe in FO4 they are called "cells" I have come across so many places I'm not happy with or seem "under developed" (Boston Airport; Nuka World) and while what I do may or may not improve it...it'll be different. So I'm putting on my swimmies and jumping into the creation kit for FO4.
As for brushing up on the backstory and lore of fallout; I'm taking the advice of @andresgrimm and watching videos of playthrough and summaries so when people release mods for something I can know whether or not it's for FO4 or not (saw an awesome player home here...read through it, and had no idea it wasn't for FO4 until I saw the screenshots and said "never seen that place before...gotta be for FNV...and it was) _________________ |

Your choices and decisions also decide the outcome at the end of the game. |
