Subject: New gaming rig build. Recommend me some mods Thu Jun 09, 2016 5:05 pm
I built my current rig in 2005 and it has served me well over the years, its seen some upgrades but as far as future gaming its at its last legs
Current Build:
Code:
AMD Phenom II X4 2.8ghz AM2+ MSI K9N2 Motherboard Gskill 8gb DDR2 1066mhz ram ATI Reference HD5870
Coming Build
Code:
http://pcpartpicker.com/list/C4V7Ps
Im reusing my 675w power supply, dvd burner, bluray burner, and 4 hdds + case from previous build.
Now that I should be able to run Fallout 4 the right way and not on medium, what are some mods you would recommend to make the game really shine?

That build is really awesome! You're going to love it. Now, I don't have much experience with fallout 4 mods as of right now but I did see a video on this one mod called Resurrection by ResurrectionDev on the Nexus. It's a crazy environment overhaul that adds a bunch of green foliage everywhere.

I was looking at that as well! It reminds me of I am Legend and Survarium. It would add a very different feel to the game, almost like a whole new game when the dev finishes it.
Thanks for the reply.

Really good build and the R9 390X is also really nice but dude. Is 64GB of ram really necessary? That thing is like $200, if i were you i would cut it down to 8GB or 16GB of ram, 16GB in my opinion. Save the money for games or other goodies, if you are going to be doing editing then know that it does not require more than 16GB of ram even 32GB is way too much overkill , if you do alot heavy editing still you don't need more than 16GB. Just take a look at it. But a really nice build, especially the I5 6600K.

While yes 64gb is overkill, its a futureproof build. Only thing in the future ill possibly do to it is watercool it. With the way Windows is going with all the nonsense crap running in the background on win 10 (I wont currently use it, Win7 4 Life) I can also use the ram for a ramdisk and Bughead Emperor Player Eats any resource thrown at it for better sound processing so it will get used often. I like to multitask alot as well. Thank you for the reply.

@PXN Didn't see that you had 64gb ram. I'm not going to try to tell you what to do but you said it's 'future proof'. I don't think it's really future proof because eventually new ram will come out and make it completely obselete. And I don't think you'll use all 64gb but you do you.

I agree pal, its best if he just uses the money for DDR4 Ram or just wait until their is new ram, i highly doubt you will be able to use more than 16GB of ram even if you multitasking, it just seems like a total waste of money right now.

Yeah, the only thing that has ever stressed my memory to max on my PC with 16gb was when using 3ds Max which has a memory leak issue. I could probably run two games at the same time and have chrome up too and still not hit max. Good call on the ram!
As far as mods, one that I'm watching and waiting for it to be further along is the Resurrection mod, which from what i've seen in Hodilton's videos, makes it look like a completely different game.
Oh, and fairly sure your motherboard already has fan control, unless you need more than 3+1 for whatever reason.
Also, not sure what's going on with 64 GB's of RAM. I do heavy rendering and Matlab calculations (sometimes both at the same time) and at 32 GB RAM myself, I've never used more than 13 GB.

Indeed Resurrection is on my shortlist. True Storms and a good ENB are gonna take a run as well. WET, VividFallout, and FAR are also gonna be added. Anybody have any other recommended mods?
I also added the CRYORIG H7 to a bookmark, if I cancel another order on newegg I have no idea what would happen lol. Out of money now for awhile replacing my Beringher UCA202 DAC finally with a SMSL M8 so my sound out of my speakers should be glorious! So I SHOULD be set for awhile.

@PXN: The UCA202 is a classic! Why would you?! Did you buy your M8 from the recent Massdrop?

I wish I did, only recently got some money. I bought it on amazon for $250. I know I overpaid but I have the option to return quickly if something is wrong with it due to amazons policies.

@PXN: Could've sworn your M8 is only $200 on Amazon. Anyway, what speakers are you running?

I currently have Boston Acoustics HD8 My current signal chain is PC>UCA202>Technics SU-Z760 all craigslist finds speakers were $75usd amp was $50usd UCA202 was $20usd on partsexpress In the future and if the deal is right I do plan to upgrade. (not jumping on these Martin Logan Quest Z Electrostatic speakers @ $1800 on craigslist was very hard to do, used the money for a pc build instead)
The reason the M8 on amazon I purchased was $250 was that I chose a prime supported seller. I should get it Saturday rather than June 23 - July 14. from the $200 seller. This one is also a amazon fulfillment seller.
I have Mitchell & Johnson Electrostatz coming from the kickstarter campaign I backed coming at the end of July so the SMSL M8 will definitely get use.

@PXN: At your price point, I'd have recommended nicer speakers first. DAC and amp barely make any impact IMO.
For the record, I'm using a Sennheiser HD700 coupled to a O2 + ODAC. Am itching for a WA7, but the $1k price tag is making me blink a bit.

Im currently happy with my speakers at the moment im in a 9x10 room so bookshelfs do fine. I was looking at the Kanto speakers massdrop has every once in a while though. Nice setup btw. I was gonna get a ODAC but I need RCA outs.
